Keothavong had lost four of her previous six meetings against Arvidsson |
Anne Keothavong booked her place in the second round of the Aegon Classic with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Sofia Arvidsson. The British number one began badly, dropping her serve in the opening game before saving two break points to avoid going 3-0 down in the third. But Keothavong, the 11th seed, broke the Swede's serve three times to take the opening set in 29 minutes. And a strong second-set performance sealed the match and a second-round encounter against India's Sania Mirza. "I was a little bit nervous at the start as it was my first match on grass, so it took me a while to get into it," said Keothavong, 25. "I've got more confidence in myself now. Breaking into the top 100 was huge for my confidence and breaking into the top 50 was even harder." Mirza, the former world number 27, beat Belarus's Tatiana Poutchek 6-1 6-2.
