Goodall is the British number three and got to the final of an Italian event |
British players Josh Goodall and James Ward have been awarded wildcards into the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club from 8-14 June. Goodall, 23, and Ward, 22, will line up alongside the likes of Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick at the grasscourt event. Senior LTA coach Paul Annacone said the wildcards give the duo "an opportunity to play in a high-level event". "They will test themselves against top players on a surface they are comfortable on," he added. Goodall, who is the British number three, was given the wildcard into the London tournament after making the final of the Italy F2 Futures competition. | 606: DEBATE |
Ward is a place below Goodall in the national rankings and took a set off Marat Safin in last year's first round at Queen's. He won the Sarasota Challenger final in Florida two weeks ago. The Queen's event, formerly known as the Stella Artois tournament, is the traditional warm-up to Wimbledon.
