Day three of the French Open starts with fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro, looking to improve his poor record at Roland Garros, up against home hope Michael Llodra
Svetlana Kuznetsova, runner-up here in 2006 and a semi-finalist in 2008, is quickly into her stride against French wildcard Claire Feuerstein, taking a 5-1 lead
But play in Paris is soon interrupted by a heavy rainstorm and, with the covers on, the wet weather rules out play for the rest of the morning
The rain falls for more than two hours in the French capital but most spectators are well prepared for whatever the elements can throw at them
When play resumes, Del Potro does not take long to complete a 6-3 6-3 6-1 victory to reach the second round here for only the second time
Kuznetsova does not let the break in play interrupt her concentration either, sealing a one-sided 6-1 6-4 win
And fifth seed Jelena Jankovic is also into round two, the former world number one making the most of an erratic display from Petra Cetkovska to win 6-2 6-3
Novak Djokovic, a semi-finalist here in 2007 and 2008, is quickly into his stride against Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti, producing some superb groundstrokes
But it is an ankle injury that eventually ends Lapentti's hopes and he retires in the second set to put the fourth seed into round two
The sun is out by the time Serena Williams arrives on Court Suzanne Lenglen, and the second seed quickly takes the first set against Klara Zakopalova
But Zakopalova, the world number 100, stages an incredible fightback in the second set - saving five match-points before winning a tie-break to level the match
Serena moves clear in the decider but there is time for another twist when Zakopalova saves three more match points and it takes a huge effort from the American to eventually seal a 6-3 6-7 6-4 victory
