Safina sets up all-Russian final

Dinara Safina

Dinara Safina fought back from a set down to power past Italy's Flavia Pennetta 3-6 7-5 6-0 to reach the final of the Stuttgart Grand Prix on Sunday.

The world number one will play Svetlana Kuznetsova, who upset second seed Elena Dementieva with surprising ease in her semi-final on Saturday.

The world number nine eased past her fellow Russian 6-4 6-2 in one hour and seven minutes.

Kuznetsova is trying to win her first tournament since New Haven in 2007.

"I was more consistent than in my other matches," said Kuznetsova, who needed three sets in both her first and second-round matches.

"I was extremely focused. I had to dictate because otherwise Elena will play very aggressively."

In Fes, Morocco, Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues beat Ekaterina Makarova of Russia 6-0 6-1 to take the title.
