Keothavong was the first British woman in the top 50 since 1993

British number one Anne Keothavong has dropped out of the world's top 50.

Keothavong reached 48 in the rankings in February but first-round exits in Indian Wells and Miami have seen her drop down to 52.

In her last tournament, in Tourhout, Belgium earlier in April, she retired from her first-round match suffering from a virus.

Maria Sharapova, who was world number one last August, has slipped to 53 after a shoulder injury.
