Robson has already got one senior title under her belt |
Britain's Laura Robson has claimed the top spot in the world junior rankings. The 15-year-old succeeds Thailand's Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, who she beat in the final of the Wimbledon girls' tournament last July. British number 13 Robson, who is the youngest player in the junior top 30, also reached the final at the Australian Open in January. Robson won her first professional title in November and lies at a career-high 499th in the senior rankings. Born in Melbourne, Australia, Robson gained a British passport in early 2008. | 606: DEBATE |
She made her debut on the main women's tour (WTA) last autumn - and claimed her first title within months when she beat fellow Briton Samantha Vickers in Sunderland. Robson has already been offered a wild card into this year's Wimbledon qualifying tournament. British number one Andy Murray has praised the Wimbledon-based junior, saying: "I think she's very good. I think she will for sure get into the top 50 but after that, you don't know. Anything can happen. "I know she's had a few problems here and there with injuries because she's been growing a lot, which is normal around that age. "But, I mean, she's going to be good. It's just you can never say how good someone is going to be. To be number one in the world, I think it's an awesome achievement. "For sure, in the guys, if you get to number one in the world in the juniors you're going to be a top player pretty much. "And the girls, if you do it when you're 18 it's not quite the same. She's doing it so young - it shows she's going to be good."
