Pavlyuchenkova storms into semis

Pavlyuchenkova beat second-seed Jelena Jankovic in the second round

Russian teenager Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova caused another upset at Indian Wells as she beat Agnieszka Radwanska to reach the semi-finals.

Pavlyuchenkova, 17, beat the seventh-seeded Pole 7-6 (10-8) 6-4.

The world number 42 will face defending champion Ana Ivanovic in her first WTA Tour semi-final after the Serb reached the last four with a walkover.

Ivanovic's quarter-final opponent Sybille Bammer was unable to play because of an injured left shoulder.

"It's the first time that I have had problems with my shoulder," said Bammer, who two years ago beat Ivanovic on her way to the semi-finals at Indian Wells.

"It happened on Wednesday at my practice and this morning, when I was warming up, I just couldn't continue. I normally play very well here and it is a place I really enjoy," added Bammer, who is to undergo an MRI scan.

Three-time junior Grand Slam winner Pavlyuchenkova, who had knocked out second-seed Jelena Jankovic in the second round, scraped through a wildly fluctuating first set after taking the tie-break 10-8.

She then broke Radwanska twice in the second set to seal victory in one hour and 36 minutes.
