Eaton was an impressive performer at Wimbledon last year

Josh Goodall and Chris Eaton have secured places in the Great Britain team to face Ukraine in the Davis Cup.

Goodall, ranked 196, and world number 390 Eaton impressed in play-offs at the National Tennis Centre in London.

Goodall and Eaton will join Andy Murray and doubles specialist Ross Hutchins for the tie in Glasgow on 6-8 March.

Murray, who withdrew from the Dubai Championships with a virus, is doubtful after being told by Dubai medical staff to rest for seven to 10 days.

James Ward, Colin Fleming, Dan Evans and Alex Slabinsky were the other players involved in the selection play-offs.

Ward and Fleming are both being taken to Glasgow as back-up, in case Murray does not recover in time.

Fleming would be the more likely replacement because of his doubles ability.

Goodall and Eaton were due to play each other on Friday but both had been through long matches earlier in the week and captain John Lloyd and coach Paul Annacone opted against risking further problems by players over-exerting themselves in search of a spot in the team.

"I spoke to the boys last night to give them the news," Lloyd told the Lawn Tennis Association's official website.

"Paul and I thought that it would be best if the players rested today as Josh and Chris had already proved themselves over their two matches.

"Both players produced their best tennis in fifth sets, which will give them confidence in their own ability next week."

Eaton, 21, had a glimpse of the big-time when he qualified for Wimbledon last year before going out in the second round, while Goodall, 23, has played at Wimbledon three times.

Goodall said: "I think we both played well this week and that's what it was going to come down to.

"They were looking at all different types of things, results and attitude, and I think both of us have shown that this week. For me, the more tennis I play, the more matches I play, the better I play."
