Jamie Murray suffered defeat in the Nottingham Open final |
Jamie Murray has confirmed he will team up with South African Liezel Huber in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. Murray, 22, lifted the trophy with Jelena Jankovic in 2007 but the Serb has opted not to defend their title in order to focus on the singles. "Liezel's the best in the world at what she does and we played the last three Grand Slams together," said Murray. On Saturday, Murray and Jeff Coetzee lost the Nottingham Open final 6-2 7-6 to Bruno Soares and Kevin Ullyett. The match was moved indoors because of rain and Murray admitted that had been a factor in their defeat. "The courts were quick and we struggled on our returns," he said. | 606: DEBATE |
Murray will be back with regular partner Max Mirnyi at Wimbledon, where they will face French pair Fabrice Santoro and Marc Gicquel. They are seeded 12th in the men's doubles, while Murray and Huber will be expected to put up a strong challenge in the mixed event. Huber and Cara Black are the top-ranked players in women's doubles. Murray added: "In the last two Grand Slams, we lost to the guys who won the tournament and we made the semi-finals of the US Open, so we think we can do well."
