Liverpool's Ken Skupski is hopeful of competing at Wimbledon for the first time in his senior career this summer. The 25-year-old from Allerton was not ranked last year, but is now 551 in the world in singles and 285 in doubles. "I'm really looking forward to playing on the grass again as it's one of my favourite surfaces," Skupski told BBC Radio Merseyside. "If I can keep playing the way I have been, I think I've got a good shot of getting these wildcards." Skupski, feels that his best chance of running out at SW19 is probably in the doubles event. "I'm not sure whether I'll be able to make the singles main draw at Wimbledon, but the doubles possibly, and maybe into the qualifying [for the singles]," he said. "You never know, if I can fire it up for that week you could see my name in the main draw of the singles as well as the doubles." He recently won his first senior singles title on the ATP Futures Tour in Greece, having joined the tour after completing a tennis scholarship in the USA last year. He has played at the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament every year since its inception in 2002. | I do plan on playing in the Liverpool International |
Skupski, whose family home is within walking distance of the tournament's base at Calderstones Park, added that he is torn on whether to compete there this year. "I do plan on playing in the Liverpool International," he added. "There are obviously different things in terms of Queen's being the same week. "The prize money and the stature of the tournament is an incredible thing. "It's very hard to say that I'd turn an opportunity to play at Queen's down because it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity."
