British hope Jamie Murray and his partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus slumped to defeat in the first round of the men's doubles at the Australian Open. The 12th seeds were beaten 7-6 (9-7) 1-6 6-3 by French pairing Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Gilles Simon.
Britain's James Auckland and American partner Sam Querrey had lost their first-round match to Rohan Bopanna and Rajeev Ram 6-1 7-6 (7-4) on Wednesday.
Murray is still in the mixed doubles, where he partners Liezel Huber.
Eric Butorac, who won three titles with Murray before their partnership ended at the 2007 US Open, is into round two at Melbourne Park after he and Zimbabwe's Kevin Ullyett beat Tomas Cibulec and Lovro Zovko 6-3 6-1.
