Murray is looking in good shape ahead of the Australian Open |
Andy Murray continued his warm-up for the Australian Open by rounding off his Kooyong Classic campaign with a 6-2 7-6 (9-7) defeat of youngster Brydan Klein. The British number one was forced to dig deep in the second set by 18-year-old Australian Klein, but came through to win the fifth-spot play-off.
The Scot also had to contend with a gusting wind, but Murray was happy to secure a second win in three matches.
"I mixed my game up, using slices and volleys more, which was good," he said.
Murray had another chance to get match practice on the new Plexicushion surface at Kooyong, which is also being used for the first time at the Australian Open.
In temperatures that reached 38C, Marcos Baghdatis prevailed 6-2, 7-5 over Fernando Gonzalez - finalist at the 2006 Aussie Open - to set up a meeting with defending Kooyong champion Andy Roddick.
