Sharapova has been plagued by shoulder problems |
Maria Sharapova will make her comeback from a shoulder injury at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, starting on 8 October. The Russian world number four has not played since her shock loss to Polish teenager Agnieszka Radwanska in US Open third round on 1 September.
"Maria has asked for a wildcard," said Alexander Katsnelson, the Kremlin Cup's executive director. "She said she's feeling fine and is ready to play."
World number one Justine Henin has pulled out with a shoulder injury.
World number two Svetlana Kuznetsova replaces the Belgian as top seed in Moscow.
Serena Williams and Marat Safin have been given wildcards for the joint ATP-WTA event.
Russian former men's world number one Safin is also making his return following a two-month injury lay-off.
