Monfils hurt his hamstring in New Haven |
Frenchman Gael Monfils has pulled out of next week's US Open in New York with a hamstring injury. The 20-year-old was hurt at the hardcourt event in New Haven this week, where he lost in the first round to Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka.
Monfils, ranked 44th in the world, was due to play a qualifier in his first round match at Flushing Meadows.
He will be replaced in the draw by a lucky loser, and joins compatriot Amelie Mauresmo on the sidelines.
Former world number one Mauresmo, 28, said earlier this month that she was still struggling to regain her fitness after a two-month lay-off following an appendix operation.
