Federer beat Nadal in a dramatic five-set Wimbledon final |
Wimbledon finalists Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have qualified for the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai. World number two Nadal leads the ATP Race, based on 2007 results, with a 51-8 record, while number one Federer is 36-5 after winning Wimbledon.
"This was one of my goals for the year and I have managed to do it pretty early so that's great," said Nadal.
Federer, a three-time winner, said: "I look forward to returning to Shanghai to defend my Masters Cup title."
The top-ranked doubles pairing of Bob and Mike Bryan have secured their place in the doubles event in Shanghai.
Nadal has accumulated 886 points from 12 tournaments to lead the 2007 race with Federer in second on 801 points, 240 points ahead of his nearest rival, Novak Djokovic.
"I know it is not going to be easy," said Nadal. "I think this is one of the most important events and one of the most difficult to win since from day one you face a top-10 player.
"No mistakes are allowed."
The tournament takes place for the third year at the Qi Zhong Stadium from November 11-18.
