GAME-BY-GAME UPDATES:
THIRD SET
Henman 4-6 Cilic
Henman's first serve deserts him and Henman volleys a high backhand into the net to give the Croat two match points. Henman saves the first with an ace. But a backhand volley then goes long. Henman's tournament is over while Cilic has his first-ever win on a grass-court.
"It's been a strange match. Henman has been by far the more consistent. Cilic has been up and down but when he's up, he's had more pace than Henman."
BBC summariser John Lloyd
Henman 4-5 Cilic
At last the crowd are showing signs of partiality. Cilic holds with a cute dropshot that leads to Henman blasting the ball out of the court in frustration.
Henman 4-4 Cilic
The players have been on court for over two hours now but it's a good workout for Henman, who is desperately short of match fitness after a first half of the season punctuated by injury and poor form. It looks like he is going to be getting extra time on court as he double-faults and Cilic earns two break points. The Croat clinches the game after yet another challenge - Hawkeye shows that Cilic's shot was well inside the line and Henman has lost his break.
Henman 4-3 Cilic
There have been loads of Hawkeye challenges in this match - and Cilic starts the game with a successful one. It's a game dominated by the 6ft 5in player's serve. Henman concedes the game with the type of volley usually seen on public courts - it bounces off his racquet and lands several feet over the baseline.
Henman 4-2 Cilic
Cilic reverts to his pattern of earlier in the match, following up a winner with an unforced error. Henman goes 40-15 up and although he makes life hard for himself and gets taken to deuce, the Briton comes through.
Henman 3-2 Cilic
Cilic holds serve pretty comfortably, securing the game with an ace and the teenager bounces back enthusiastically to his chair.
Henman 2-1 Cilic
He may be under the weather but Henman seems to be enjoying himself a bit more out there, sharing a joke with one of the line judges after he unsuccessfully challanges a call. Even though the Croat holds to love, there's no sign of Cilic smiling at the other end, however, as his brow furrows deeper above his bushy eyebrows.
Henman 2-0 Cilic
Cilic has his chances but Henman clings onto his advantage in the set.
"We know better than to think Henman is home and dry just because he is a break up."
BBC commentator Andrew Castle
Henman 1-0 Cilic
Some sloppy play from Cilic and Henman is 0-40 up on the Croat's serve. Cilic finds the net again and Henman has an early advantage.
SECOND SET
Henman 6-2 Cilic
The warning bells ring as Cilic goes 15-30 up. A terrific point follows in which Henman then chases down a lob and turns on a sixpence before firing a forehand winner down the line. Henman thinks he has won the second set but Cilic prolongs things with a successful Hawkeye challenge. There's a gasp of anguish from the crowd as Henman nets a simple forehand on his next set point. A third set point goes begging before Henman finally levels the match.
"We're getting to the stage of the match where stamina comes in to play."
BBC summariser John Lloyd
Henman 5-2 Cilic
Cilic holds but he hasn't looked like breaking Henman in this second set yet - and he needs two breaks if he is to get back into it.
Henman 5-1 Cilic
Some superb serving from Henman takes him to within a game of levelling the match at one set all.
Henman 4-1 Cilic
Henman has three break points for a triple break but the 18-year-old Cilic, who is a wildcard at this tournament, does well to hang onto his serve and stay alive in the second set.
Henman 4-0 Cilic
I know you should never say this about Henman but he looks in control in this set now, holding comfortably. It's a humid day in west London and Cilic's red shirt is drenched in sweat.
Henman 3-0 Cilic
Cilic is a little careless with a sliced crosscourt dropshot, which drifts wide to give Henman two break points. Henman can't take advantage but secures the double break a few points later when the Croat blasts a an off-balance forehand wide.
Henman 2-0 Cilic
A good game from Henman, who holds convincingly, securing the game with an unreturnable first serve down the middle of the T.
Henman 1-0 Cilic
It seems no-one wants to win this match. Cilic shanks a backhand to give Henman a chance to break, which the Briton accepts.
"The crowd would like to see a bit more from Henman. He's been a bit subdued but I think that's probably the tummy."
BBC commentator Andrew Castle
FIRST SET
Henman 6-7 (5-7) Cilic
A rollercoaster tiebreak for Henman. He faces four set points after going 6-2 down but some inspired play from the British number two see him save one and then break both Cilic's serves to get right back into the tiebreak. But at 6-5 down, Henman produces his first double fault of the match to hand the first set to Cilic.
Henman 6-6 Cilic
Henman, who has apparently not been well over the last couple of days, shows great spirit to break Cilic to love and force the tiebreak.
"It wouldn't be a Henman match without a few ups and downs."
BBC commentator Andrew Castle
Henman 5-6 Cilic
Henman faces three break points again. He saves the first after a successful Hawkeye challenge but there is a groan as he finds the net on the next point. The Croat will serve for the first set that Henman should have had in the bag 20 minutes ago.
Henman 5-5 Cilic
Cilic holds and there are signs that he is getting to grips with the surface.
Henman 5-4 Cilic
After the blip of the previous game, Henman looks much more solid on serve. Jonathan Ross is among the spectators - his warm-up man would be more useful here as the atmosphere is still a bit muted.
"I still think Henman can break Cilic. It's just a question of whether he can hold his own serve."
BBC summariser John Lloyd
Henman 4-4 Cilic
Cilic's best service game of the match as he does not drop a point and bangs down several serves that leave Henman scrambling helplessly in an attempt to return them.
Henman 4-3 Cilic
It's back on serve as Henman lets slip his break. The Briton saves two break points but Cilic converts his third by slapping a backhand winner across the court.
Henman 4-2 Cilic
Cilic does not look happy at the net and a volley that balloons off his racquet and well beyond the baseline gives Henman the chance to break. But Cilic fights back to hold.
"You can't teach good hands and that's what Henman has - even when he plays golf and squash."
BBC commentator Andrew Castle
Henman 4-1 Cilic
The gangly Croat gets a glimmer of a chance at 30-30 but is let down by his volleying.
Henman 3-1 Cilic
Henman makes the first breakthrough as Cilic falters at break point down.
Henman 2-1 Cilic
A much more comfortable game from Henman, who says he feels more at home at Queen's than he does at Wimbledon - his house-warming is showing signs of getting going as the spectators filter in at the change of ends, many of them no doubt fortified by a bit of corporate hospitality.
Henman 1-1 Cilic
Polite applause as Cilic levels the match - despite Henman having a break point of his own. No sign of Henmania just yet and less than a fortnight to go until the start of Wimbledon.
Henman 1-0 Cilic
Shaky start from Henman, who survives two break points before taking the game. He trailed 0-30 and 30-40 before forcing deuce and staying calm to finally hold his serve.
