Jankovic is now a career-high world number five |
Third seed Jelena Jankovic made short of work of Patty Schnyder to reach the final of the Italian Open. Schnyder, seeded 14, beat Serena Williams in the last eight, but went down 6-1 6-3 to Serbian Jankovic.
In the final of the warm-up event before the French open, Jankovic meets second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Daniela Hantuchova 6-4 6-2.
Kuznetsova broke at 2-1 up before taking the first set and maintaining the pressure to seal the second.
Kuznetsova, ranked a career-high number three this week following her runner-up finish in last week's German Open, used her speed to run down Hantuchova's angled shots.
And her opponent, who beat Anabel Medina Garrigues in a long two-setter the night before, never appeared to have fully recovered.
Despite her easy win, she paid tribute to Schnyder, saying: "She played unbelievably yesterday and it's really hard to play two days in a row like she did.
"I expected a really tough match. She's a lefty and her balls have a lot of spin and bounce really high.
"I just tried to play to her backhand a lot so she couldn't use spin with her forehand."
