Henin has won 32 tournaments in her career |
Justine Henin became the first player to claim three titles this season when she beat Alona Bondarenko 6-1 6-3 in the J&S Cup final in Warsaw on Monday. Henin broke her Ukrainian opponent in the opening game before romping away with the first set.
After trading breaks early in the second set, Henin broke with a forehand volley to lead 5-3 and served out the match to claim her 32nd career title.
The final was held over from Sunday because of persistent rain.
"To wait yesterday was pretty hard," said Henin, who needed just 61 minutes to secure her second Warsaw title. "But finally it was a good day today.
"I'm very happy to win my second title here in Warsaw and the first tournament (this season) on clay. That gives me confidence."
Bondarenko, whose ranking is expected to improve from 40 to
29, was competing in her third career final, with her only title
coming in Luxembourg last year.
"I wasn't hitting the ball hard enough to win," she said. "I was very nervous in the first set, but in the second set I started playing a little better.
"I enjoyed the experience of playing Justine and hope next time I play better."
