Henin-Hardenne finished last season as world number one |
Justine Henin-Hardenne will return to competitive tennis in Paris next month after confirming her absence from the tour was due to her marriage break-up. Earlier this month the world number one pulled out of the Australian Open "for family reasons" amid speculation she and husband Pierre-Yves had split up.
"Pierre-Yves and I have decided to separate - the reasons are personal," she said on her website on Tuesday.
"The last few weeks were very difficult for me."
Henin-Hardenne, who got married in 2002, will lose her world number one ranking next week because she has not defended the points she won at last year's Australian Open where she was runner-up.
The Belgian will now kick off her 2007 season at the Open Gaz de France, which begins on 5 February.
"It is not far from my home and it's always pleasant for me to be in Paris," said the 24-year-old.
