SECOND SET:

Santangelo 2-6 Mauresmo
It's all over in just 56 minutes as another ace seals the deal for Amelie. To say she wasn't really pushed is like saying that the weather's been a touch dicey this week.

Santangelo 2-5 Mauresmo
The lamest of the lame from the Italian, who makes her 15th unforced error of this short match to stumble to 0-40, and then double faults to gift-wrap the match and hand it over on a platinum platter.

Santangelo 2-4 Mauresmo
Santa produces her best tennis of the day to control and then win a 16-shot rally to go to 0-15. That's as good as it gets for her as Mauro fires in more of those booming backhands to extend her lead. Grey clouds overhead, but they're hanging on to their unwanted contents for the time being.

Santangelo 2-3 Mauresmo
High fives all round - Santa holds her serve for the first time in an age with a nice succession of lusty blows.

Santangelo 1-3 Mauresmo
Clunk - ace number seven from Amelie extends her lead. She's wearing a white sweatband on her right wrist, which is entirely redundant bearing in mind the ease of this performance so far

Santangelo 1-2 Mauresmo
Dear oh dear - Santa, mere seconds after getting her first toe-hold in the match, falls apart again at 30-30 and punts a flat backhand wide to be broken for the third successive game. Recently-retired ballet legend Darcey Bussell watches impassively from the rammed Royal Box, face hidden behind enormous - and considering the weather, unnecessary - sunglasses.

Santangelo 1-1 Mauresmo
The kitten roars! Well, mewls loudly at least. Santa breaks back immediately as La Champe loses concentration. Warm applause from the crowd, who are keen to keep the circulation going in their frozen hands.

Santangelo 0-1 Mauresmo
It's like watching a match with your finger on the fast-forward button - Santa capitulates like a soggy kitten once again, patting a weak forehand into the tramlines to lose another break.

"We should expect a better second set from Santangelo." Judy Murray, BBC Five Live

FIRST SET:

Santangelo 1-6 Mauresmo
Wallop - that's the first set in the bag, and the woman from St Germains-en-Laye is strolling this one.

Santangelo 1-5 Mauresmo
Dismal from Santa. She clouts four mis-hits in a row to slip from 30-0 to another break. Easy pickings. According to her official profile, Santa "enjoys sightseeing, especially in historical cities". Rather than in rubbish eye-sores, then. Has she never been to Harlow?

Santangelo 1-4 Mauresmo
Mauro holds with the aid of two thumping aces. The Roal Box is rammed today - there's Brian Lara, just a few seats away from Sir Clive Lloyd. Sir Clive's greying 'tache moves up and down as he chews contemplatively on a stick of gum.

Santangelo 1-3 Mauresmo
We're warming up here - Santa comes to the net and dismisses two Amelie forehands with reflex volleys to get on the board. Mauresmo squeezes an energy gel into her cakehole as she takes a breather at the changeover.

Santangelo 0-3 Mauresmo
Dominant from Mauresmo, coming in behind a crunching serve to punch away a high volley. Santa can't get a foothold at the moment, and she's stuck at base camp. Another spot in the Royal Box - this time it's Lenny Henry and Dawn French. Imagine sitting next to them - comedy gold.

Santangelo 0-2 Mauresmo
First break of the day for La Champe, passing Santa nicely with a rolling backhand and popping away a volley to seal the game. Sir Bobby Robson applauds enthusiastically in the Royal Box.

Santangelo 0-1 Mauresmo
A woeful first game from both players, handing each other points happily until Mauresmo clears her throat and polishes things off with a big first serve. Pity the crowd here - they've been waiting almost two hours to be served here, and when their meal finally arrives the dish is cold.

1450 BST: Sing hosannas - the players are on court! It's been a stinker of a day so far, wetter than an octopus's garden, but we're finally ready to go.
