Roddick and Federer could meet in the Australian Open semi-finals |
Defending champion Andy Roddick defeated Andy Murray 6-4 6-4 to set up a final against top seed Roger Federer at the Kooyong Classic tournament. Roddick fought off four break points before breaking Murray in the fifth game to clinch the opener.
The American again edged in front in a tight second set, breaking the Briton at 4-4 before serving out the match.
Federer, who has lost to Roddick only once in 13 meetings, beat Marat Safin on Thursday to reach the final.
"It's always nice to get a shot at Roger," said Roddick, who lost to Federer in the 2005 Kooyong final.
"I'm going out there and try and win a tennis match but we're here for preparation and to play in a nice environment before the Aussie Open."
Murray, who warmed up for the Australian Open by reaching the final of the Qatar Open last week, was not disappointed in defeat.
"I served well in patches, and we had lot of rallies," said the British number one. "That's the most important thing.
"We weren't playing for ranking points or money, we're all trying to get ready for next week."
