British Davis Cup coach Peter Lundgren has been given a leave of absence by the Lawn Tennis Association for "personal reasons". The Swede was reported to have slurred his words when he spoke in front of fellow coaches at a conference at the LTA's headquarters last weekend.
Head of men's tennis Paul Hutchins refused to explain what had happened.
But he revealed Lundgren was taking a leave of absence until Britain's Davis Cup tie against Croatia in September.
Lundgren became Britain's Davis Cup coach last October. He had previously worked with Roger Federer and Marat Safin.
Tuesday's decision angered British number five Joshua Goodall, who was coached by Lundgren and only learned he would not be by his side shortly before his opening Wimbledon match against Feliciano Lopez got under way on Monday evening.
"Ten minutes before my match I got wind from the head of the LTA men's side that Peter, who I had been working with for the whole year, had been relieved of his job," Goodall told BBC Sport.
"I have not had the best of years but last week I turned the corner and everything felt great.

"I was looking for Peter to sort my tactics out for the match and I get this news.
"For the first set my mind was completely elsewhere - I couldn't even think straight. I was so disappointed that the LTA had done this before the biggest match of my career. I felt the timing of it was absolutely disgraceful.
"I am really disappointed and couldn't have had worse preparations for my match.
"I now need to get some questions answered by the LTA as I haven't got a coach and still have some big matches coming up."
However, Hutchins hit back, telling BBC Sport: "I do feel sorry for Josh.

"However, it was Josh who didn't go to see Peter at all at Queen's Club when Peter wanted him to come there and practice and train."
Hutchins added: "There is this blame culture going around British tennis, and there are certain people who just love to blame the LTA.
"I'm getting pretty tired of it, of people expecting the LTA to be their life-blood, they expect the LTA to pay for too many things, they expect the LTA to do too many things."
