Baltacha and Baker failed to progress to the second round |
Scotland's two representatives in the singles at Wimbledon have bowed out after suffering first-round defeats. Elena Baltacha lost 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-2 to Slovakian 19th seed Katarina Srebotnik in her women's singles match, despite a battling display.
Jamie Baker lost to Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 7-6 (7-2) 6-2 6-3, in the first round of the men's singles.
Andy Murray's absence through injury means there are no Scots left in the tournament's singles events.
In Baltacha's game, the first set went with serve, as did the tie-break until an untimely double fault handed Srebotnik set point.
Baltacha broke for 2-0 in the second, saved four break points to lead 5-2 and hit an ace to level the match.
The pair swapped breaks early in the third on Court Three before Srebotnik broke for 4-2 and closed out.
Baltacha is due to be back in Wimbledon action on Wednesday.
She teams up with fellow Briton Naomi Cavaday in the women's doubles and takes on Stephanie Foretz (France) and Selima Sfar (Tunisia) on Court 13.
Baker is due on Court 7 with his partner Alex Bogdanovic.
The British duo face the 16th seeds in the men's doubles, Polish pair Mariusz Frystenberg and Lukasz Kubot.
