Kuznetsova is a former US Open champion

Russian Kuznetsova beat fifth seed Hingis 6-1 1-6 6-3 and will now play Daniela Hantuchova in the last four.

Second seed Maria Sharapova beat Swiss wildcard Timea Bacsinszky 6-4 6-3 and now plays in-form Katarina Srebotnik.

Slovenian Srebotnik, who beat fourth seed Elena Dementieva in the previous round, saw off Maria Kirilenko 6-3 6-2.

Despite the straightforward scoreline, Sharapova wasn't wholly satisfied with her display.

"I wasn't completely comfortable - there were ups and downs," said the Russian, who still has a slim chance of finishing the season as the world number one.

"She's a pretty big hitter and has a good backhand."

Slovankian Hantuchova had a walkover in her quarter-final after top seed Mauresmo pulled out of the tournament on Thursday with a shoulder injury.
