Henman is looking to improve his ranking before the end of the year |
Tim Henman got off to a confident start at the Japan Open with a 6-2 6-1 win over Canada's Frank Dancevic. The 10th seed, who had a bye in the first round, will face Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, who beat American Robby Ginepri 6-2 6-2.
"The court is a little bit quicker than what I usually play on, but it suits my game really well," said Henman.
"I'll try to play the same way as I did today and see what happens. You've just got to keep plugging away."
British number one Andy Murray is not in singles action until Wednesday, when he faces Jiri Novak.
In other second round matches, American seventh seed Robbie Ginepri was beaten 6-2 6-2 by Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina.
In the first round of the women's singles event, unseeded American Jamea Jackson ousted Argentine sixth seed Gisela Dulko 6-4 6-1.
