Organisers did their best but the rain would not stop |
Play has been abandoned for the day at Flushing Meadows because of persistent rain, without a ball hit in anger. Bad weather has dogged the US Open all week, and the tropical storm that hit on Friday wiped out Saturday totally.
All matches have been put back to Sunday when the high winds and rain are expected to have abated.
Andre Agassi is the one beneficiary of the bad weather as the delay will allow the 36-year-old extra time to rest his chronic back injury.
Agassi, playing in his last tournament before retirement, had a cortisone injection following his first-round win over Andrei Pavel and a painkilling injection on Friday after his emotional five-set win over eighth seed Marcos Baghdatis.
His match against Becker will be the first on Arthur Ashe Court on Sunday at 1600 BST.
