Mauresmo has reached the semis on her last four visits to SW19 |
Top seed Amelie Mauresmo booked a Wimbledon semi-final against Maria Sharapova with a 6-1 3-6 6-3 win over a misfiring Anastasia Myskina. Mauresmo cruised through the first set, with Myskina managing just one winner.
The ninth seed contributed only two in the second set but was grateful for a host of unforced errors from Mauresmo.
The match improved in the decider, but Myskina faltered at 2-3 and Mauresmo held her nerve to ensure the top four seeds will contest the semi-finals.
Mauresmo, infamous for squandering winning positions, looked in trouble again after waltzing through the opening set.

The 26-year-old committed 17 unforced errors to allow Myskina, who had been looking at her support camp with increasing desperation, a lifeline.
However, after a strong start by both players in the decider, it was Myskina who cracked, throwing in a double fault in a loose game to give Mauresmo a 4-2 lead.
The Frenchwoman netted a fairly routine volley on her first match point at 5-2 but shrugged off that setback to serve out victory in the next game.
"I'm a little bit relieved," admitted Mauresmo, who has reached the semi-finals on her last four visits to Wimbledon but has never gone beyond that stage.
"I'm not happy with the way it went in the second and third but I came back and won and that's the most important thing.
"I felt comfortable in the first set but I suddenly started not going forward as much and she came back.
"I have the opportunity to play better in the semis on Thursday and I will have to be avoid those kind of errors."
