Baghdatis will be inside the world's top 30 after his run to the final

The world number one eventually triumphed 5-7 7-5 6-0 6-2 against the 20-year-old unseeded Cypriot.

"I did focus for two sets but then there were moments that I started thinking too much," said Baghdatis.

"Maybe I was a bit scared of him and didn't really believe in it. So, I mean, it was tough."

Baghdatis, who is set to rise from 54th to 26th in the world rankings, admitted he lost his focus at a crucial time.

Asked what he would do differently if he played the final again, he admitted: "Stop thinking, just play my game, continue being aggressive.

"I'm a bit unhappy, I mean it's just after the match and I think it will take me two or three days to come back and smile again."

Baghdatis said his experience at Melbourne Park, where he was enthusiastically backed by the city's large Greek community, was a dream come through.

His tournament highlight came in his fourth-round victory over second seed Andy Roddick.

"Beating Roddick was my first time winning in Rod Laver Arena, I mean, beating number three in the world was my best victory," he said.

"It was really amazing, emotionally was fantastic. I will just stay healthy and keep playing like this and keep playing my game," he said. "I hope I'll go far."
