British number one Elena Baltacha has failed to reach the main draw of the Australian Open after losing her second qualifying match in Melbourne. The 22-year-old, who reached the third round proper last year, made 42 unforced errors as she was comfortably beaten by China's Meng Yuan 6-3 6-4.
Baltacha, the world number 122, will now see her ranking slide.
Fellow Brit Anne Keothavong also went out as she lost a battling contest 2-6 6-7 to American Vania King.
