France's Nathalie Dechy made a shock early exit from the Rome Masters on Monday when she lost her first-round match to Italian Maria Elena Camerin. The 10th seed seemed well in control as she broke the home favourite in the 10th game to take a one-set lead.
But a string of unforced errors handed the second set to Camerin, who went on to win 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Russian ninth seed Elena Bovina is into round two after easing past American Mashona Washington 6-2 6-2.
