Capriati missed Indian Wells last year with a back injury |
Jennifer Capriati will not play in Indian Wells as she recovers from shoulder injury. The 28-year-old American has been out of action since November because of the problem and had surgery in January.
Justine Henin-Hardenne will also be absent from the event, which begins on 9 March, as she is not yet back to full fitness after a knee injury.
Venus and Serena Williams have not entered since 2001 when they claimed they were racially abused by the crowd.
The tournament is expected to feature the world's current top three players, Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo and Maria Sharapova, as well as 2003 champion Kim Clijsters.
