Serena Williams was at the centre of a stalking scare at the Paris Indoor Open on Friday as a spectator bluffed his way into her news conference. French police were questioning the man, who reportedly also managed to reach the players' locker room on Wednesday.
Williams was explaining her decision to pull out of the tournament with a stomach upset when the man interrupted.
"I'm a fan and I just wanted a kiss," he said in French before being escorted out of the room by security officers.
Williams replied "No" after hearing the translation and quickly left the conference room looking puzzled.
Williams' withdrawal because of gastro-enteritis allowed unseeded Russian Dinara Safina move into the last four. "I'm really sorry not to be able to play here, but I'm sick," said Williams.
