Australian Open champion Marat Safin has qualified for the Masters Cup in Shanghai, joining Roger Federer and French Open champion Rafael Nadal. Federer and Nadal are assured of their places in the season finale due to their rankings, so Safin qualifies as the only other 2005 Grand Slam winner.
The top seven players in the Champions Race qualify, with one spot for a Grand Slam champion ranked in the top 20.
Safin is currently eighth but is guaranteed to finish in the top 20
It will be Safin's fourth appearance in five years at the Tennis Masters Cup, which will be held at the spectacular new Qi Zhong Stadium in Shanghai from 13-20 November.
Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi should be safe for three of the final five places, with Guillermo Coria leading Nikolay Davydenko and Gaston Gaudio in the chase for the last two.
