Israeli teenager Shahar Peer caused a shock in the first round of the Hyderabad Open by knocking out third seed Tatiana Panova 6-3 7-6 (7-2). Another little-known Israeli player, Tzipora Obziler, beat seventh seed Lubomira Kurhajcova 6-2 6-2 to secure her place in the second round.
Fourth seed Jie Zheng eased past Russia's Galina Voskoboeva 6-4 6-2.
Alyona Bondarenko beat Ankita Bhambri 6-3 6-2, joining Tiantian Sun, Roberta Vinci Marie-Eve Pelletier in round two.
