Nathalie Dechy will face Lindsay Davenport in the Australian Open semi-finals after a 5-7 6-1 7-5 win over 12th seed Patty Schnyder. On a sparsely-populated Margaret Court Arena, Dechy looked to be in control when she took the second set with ease as Schnyder struggled in the heat.
However, Schnyder lifted herself in the decider and took a 2-0 lead.
But Dechy stormed back to win in just over two and a half hours and reach a Grand Slam semi for the first time.
The 25-year-old admitted she was disappointed her achievement took place in front of a such a small crowd.
The match was moved to the smaller Margaret Court Arena to allow Australia's Todd Woodbridge to play his men's double match with Mahesh Bhupathi on Rod Laver Arena.
"I feel really disappointed because you just think that nobody cares too much about this match," she said.
Of her victory she said: "It feels great. I'm really proud of what I did and I want to keep going for sure."
