Andrew Murray is one of those tipped for success in the future |
British tennis boss David Felgate has thrown down the gauntlet to the country's top young stars after Tim Henman's Davis Cup retirement. The LTA performance director is urging the next generation to force their way into the squad to face Israel.
World number 191 Alex Bogdanovic and US Open junior champion Andrew Murray are the obvious candidates to join Greg Rusedski as the other singles player.
"This is their chance and we will see who is going to step up," said Felgate.
"Everybody talks about Andrew, who is a tremendous prospect, but there are a large number of players who can force their way in with a few weeks of good performances."
Henman announced on Friday that he was finishing his 50-match Davis Cup career to concentrate on claiming an elusive first Grand Slam title.
