Fifth seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile got his season off to a winning start against American James Blake at the Heineken Open in Auckland on Monday. Gonzalez came through 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 and will face Mariano Zabaleta in the last 16 after the Argentine beat G.D. Jones of New Zealand 6-0 6-2.
Fourth seed Vincent Spadea thrashed David Sanchez 6-0 6-0 and meets Robby Ginepri or Agustin Calleri next.
Top seed Guillermo Coria takes on Sjeng Schalken on Tuesday.
