Roger Federer completed a comfortable win over Hicham Arazi in the opening round of the Toronto Masters. The top seed had won the first set against the Moroccan on Tuesday night before rain stopped play.
And he took one of his two break points in the second set to complete a 6-3 7-5 victory in an hour and 28 minutes.
Second seed Andy Roddick cruised past France's Julien Benneteau 6-4 6-2 but third seed Gullermo Coria retired hurt with a shoulder injury.
Coria was trailing 5-1 in the first set of his match against Peru's Luis Horna when he finally withdrew.
Federer said afterwards that he was pleased with his form.
"I'm very happy to have played so well, it's never easy with the rain," said the Swiss, winner of 26 of his last 27 matches.
"I'm ready for the next round, I'm very happy to be through."

After his victory Roddick said that the depth in the men's game was making winning tournament's a difficult proposition.
"The depth in the game is pretty impressive," said the American.
"It's really, really tough these days, especially at tournaments like this, when everybody is here.
"I'm just going to try and win as many matches as I can."
Eighth seed Rainer Schuettler lost 3-6 6-4 6-3 to Fernando Gonzalez while Nicolas Kiefer overcame 15th seed Marat Safin 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-2).
French Open champion Gaston Gaudio was another seed to lose out in the first round, going down 7-6 (7-2) 5-7 6-3 to Australian qualifier Todd Reid.
And 12th seed Sebastien Grosjean lost 6-2 7-6 to fellow Frenchman Gregory Carraz.
But there was better news for fourth seed Carlos Moya who came back from a set down to beat fellow Spaniard Fernado Verdasco 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 6-4.
Tim Henman, playing his first match since Wimbledon, eased past Argentina's Mariano Zabaleta 6-4 6-1.
