Third seed Rainer Schuettler eased into the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open on Thursday with a comfortable 6-3 6-2 win over fellow German Florian Mayer. But Spanish sixth seed David Ferrer crashed out, with a 6-3 7-6 defeat to compatriot Felix Mantilla in Gstaad.
Schuettler took just 57 minutes to see off the challenge of Mayer.
There was frustration for Wimbledon champion Roger Federer, whose match with Ivo Karlovic was postponed because of thunderstorms in the area.
The home favourite, who retained his Wimbledon crown on Sunday by defeating American Andy Roddick, was left on the sidelines by torrential downpours.
Switzerland's Marc Rosset was also frustrated, as he was unable to complete his match against the Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek.
Rosset, Federer's Davis Cup captain, held a 6-4 3-2 lead over Stepanek when play was suspended.
