Greg Rusedski stumbled to a three-set loss to South Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee in the first round of the Stella Artois Championship at Queen's Club. The British number two went down 6-3 3-6 6-4 to the man he beat at Surbiton last week.
Rusedski looked fit and eager and began in determined fashion, winning the first set quickly with one break.
But Lee held his nerve and gradually became accustomed to Rusedski's serve and lifted his game sufficiently.
Rusedski was cleared of a doping offence in March despite having tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone.
A tribunal ruled that the men's professional tennis tour, the ATP, were to blame for distributing contaminated supplements.
But Rusedski, the former US Open runner-up, has now lost his last five matches in top-level competition.
"To have all that rubbish for seven months... it has been very difficult," said 30-year-old Rusedski, who is now ranked 103 in the world.
"It is frustrating because my mind knows what I have to do, but I'm not doing it.

"You know, even if you are just a little bit 'off' then you are packing your bags. I was more than a little bit 'off' today."
Lee struggled to cope with Rusedki's power and variety of service in the first set but once he adjusted he proved the better player.
He broke Rusedski in the fourth game of the second set and held his own serve before closing out the set.
In the third, Rusedski romped to 3-0 up but let his opponent back in and became visibly frustrated as Lee ground his way back for the victory.
Rusedski received a much needed boost after his loss when Wimbledon organisers awarded him a wild card.
