Bogdanovic has been labelled one of Britain's best future prospects |
Alex Bogdanovic, one of Britain's brightest tennis prospects, has been told to "step up, or step out". The warning, issued four weeks ago by LTA coaches, threatened his place in the national training squad.
"It was made crystal clear to Alex what he needed to do," said LTA performance director David Felgate at the La Manga training base in Spain.
"If he wanted to join the party we would help him, but if he didn't then he would have to go off on his own."
Felgate added: "What he couldn't do was sit in the middle and not do a full day's work."
Since the ultimatum, given in a meeting by Swedish coach Martin Bohm and LTA head of performance Jeremy Bates, the 19-year-old's attitude has noticeably improved.

"In the last month he has been truly excellent," said Bohm, who was disappointed with Bogdanovic's first month's work. Bogdanovic said he too was pleased with his progress.
"I'm much more focused now and I know what my goals are for next year," he said this week before joining his team-mates on a cross country run.
"You can have days when its windy and you don't feel like playing but those are the most important days.
"When you're tired and when its windy, if you put in 100% and work hard, that's where you can grow and get stronger."
Bogdanovic's aim for next year, to get into the world's top 100, would require a leap of 178 ranking places in 12 months.
"Things have changed for Bogdanovic, but we're a month in," said Felgate.
"Its not just about a month, it's about six months, a year, constantly doing it [the hard work]".
