Clockwatch: Ferrero v Moya
Juan Carlos Ferrero reaches the final of the tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai after a three-set win over compatriot Carlos Moya.

Juan Carlos Ferrero held his nerve against Carlos Moya and reach the Masters Cup final after a thrilling match.

Moya, unbeaten ahead of the game, took the first set on a tie-break, but one break in each of the following two sets was enough to take the tenacious Ferrero through.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 4-6 Ferrero
Moya sends a volley one inch too low to hand Ferrero match point - and he makes no mistakes, nailing a brilliant first serve and to complete a great comeback.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 4-5 Ferrero
Moya still refuses to wilt and enjoys his easiest service game for a long time, coasting past his compatriot who is now serving for the match.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 3-5 Ferrero
Moya loses a crucial point on a marginal line call at 15-30, and that is all the incentive Ferrero needs to close out the game and move to within one game of victory.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 3-4 Ferrero
Ferrero finally breaks Moya after another thrilling game.

Moya looked set to come back from three break points down, but Ferrero's speed saw him succeed on the third and earn a potentially crucial advantage.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 3-3 Ferrero
Ferrero enjoys an easier time than Moya did in the previous game, once again levelling the match. Moya is cursing a relatively simple netted forehand at 15-30 which made life much easier for Ferrero.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 3-2 Ferrero
Moya faces two break points after some quality returns from Ferrero. But he serves an ace, and then a Ferrero error takes the game to deuce.

Moya saves yet another break point with his ninth ace, serves another for good measure, then triumphs after a brilliant rally to regain the lead.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 2-2 Ferrero
Ferrero levels the match again and the tension levels rise still further. The contest looks likely to go all the way.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 2-1 Ferrero
Moya is still looking the more confident of the two players on his serve and he wins the game to love.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 1-1 Ferrero
Ferrero deserves great credit for fighting back from two break points down to hold serve, although Moya will be fuming at another missed opportunity.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 1-0 Ferrero
Moya loses the opening two points and looks set to repeat his mistake from the second set of starting too slowly.

But Ferrero makes an unforced error, and Moya ensures he does not mess up again.

Second set: Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 Ferrero
While Ferrero has struggled to impact on Moya's serve in the past few games, his own service game has been strong and he closes out the game losing just one point along the way.

Moya ultimately paid the price for a lack of concentration at the start of the set, and was unable to recover from losing his first service game.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 4-5 Ferrero
Moya is never in danger of losing and Ferrero plays some wild shots without winning a single point.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 3-5 Ferrero
Ferrero is less than comfortable during the game, but survives a break point to move within one game of levelling the match.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 3-4 Ferrero
Moya produces another powerful service to remind Ferrero he is far from secure in this set.

Ferrero's only point comes from a lucky break when the ball hits the net cord - otherwise Moya is dominant.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 2-4 Ferrero
Ferrero races to a 40-0, but suffers a wobble as Moya wins the next two points.

But Ferrero survives the scare to remain one break ahead.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 2-3 Ferrero
Moya's game has certainly lost some of the intensity which distinguished it in the first set.

He is now playing a curious mixture of aces mixed with unforced errors. But, at the moment, there is more good than bad, and he remains in contention.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 1-3 Ferrero
Ferrero is not put off with a dubious line call when he is leading 40-0 and ensures that Moya is given no chance to break back.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 1-2 Ferrero
It is as though Moya's slackness early in the set were necessary to fire him into life.

This is one of his most impressive service games so far and he closes it out to love.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 0-2 Ferrero
Ferrero takes advantage of the momentum handed to him by the bonus of the early break with a confident service game.

The highlight is a backhand at 30-15 where Ferrero hits the winning shot from a good six or seven yards wide of the court.

Moya 7-6 (8-6) 0-1 Ferrero
Ferrero is visibly annoyed with himself after throwing away a three-game lead - and missing two set points - during the opening set.

But his channels his frustration brilliantly and puts Moya under pressure immediately by winning a break point.

Moya, perhaps losing some concentration, double faults to give his compatriot an instant lift.

First set: Moya 7-6 (8-6) Ferrero
A thriling tie-break ends a fascinating set in which there has been barely anything to choose between the players.

After a great opening point by Moya, Ferrero is generally on top but is eventually pegged back to 5-5.

An unforced Moya error hands Ferrero a set point which is lost when Moya gets the benefit of a desperately close line call.

Moya takes full advantage of the situation, closing out the set in style with a blistering ace.

Moya 6-6 Ferrero
Moya survives a slight wobble when he slips to 15-30 behind, but produces three huge first serves in succession to force a first set tie-break.

Moya 5-6 Ferrero
Ferrero stops the rot after losing three games in succession and although he is not quite back on top form he is too strong for Moya who, once again, must serve to stay in the set.

Moya 5-5 Ferrero
Moya begins in determined fashion, in no mood to waste his opportunity to square the match, and races to a 40-0 lead.

Two errors give Ferrero hope, but Moya regains his composure to level the scores.

Moya 4-5 Ferrero
Moya begins in imperious style, a delicate drop shot and a well-placed smash raising his hopes of a crucial break back.

After netting a simple forehand, Moya earns two break points, winning the game as Ferrero double faults.

Moya 3-5 Ferrero
Serving to stay in the set, Moya is in aggressive mood.

Ferrero is no more than a spectator for much of the game as Moya produces some thunderous power shots to keep his hopes alive.

Moya 2-5 Ferrero
Ferrero is looking set to continue his dominance over Moya as he closes out his service game with few problems to move within one game of the opening set.

Moya 2-4 Ferrero
Ferrero is definitely in the ascendency, and wins the first break of the match after putting Moya under pressure.

Moya has little answer to some of Ferrero's impeccable backhands and finishes the game with an error, netting when facing his first break point.

Moya 2-3 Ferrero
Ferrero, perhaps buoyed by his impressive stroke play in the previous game, is in control on his serve.

Moya produces one unreturnable forehand mid-way through the game, but Ferrero is never seriously in danger of falling one break behind.

Moya 2-2 Ferrero
Moya is cursing after allowing Ferrero to triumph in a fabulous rally at 15-15, he pays the price after failing to close out the point with a smash.

But he does not allow the mistake to upset his concentration, and he comes back well to square the match once again.

Moya 1-2 Ferrero
Ferrero wobbles, and has no anwer to two blistering backhands from Moya which earn two break points.

But Ferrero soon restores composure and saves both break points, before closing out the game in impressive style with a solid forehand.

Moya 1-1 Ferrero
Moya replies to Ferrero's good start in kind, finishing an impressive service game with his first ace.

The two compatriots both look in determined mood.

Moya 0-1 Ferrero
Ferrero opens with an ace, and is dominant throughout the game, losing just one point.

The highlight is a blistering crosscourt forehand to move 40-15 ahead, which finds the corner of the court with pinpoint accuracy.

Build up

Carlos Moya's sparkling recent form makes him favourite to triumph against his fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Moya won all three of his round robin matches, including a three-set marathon against Albert Costa.

But the former world number one has lost seven of his nine matches against Ferrero.
