Honours for Shriver and Wilander
Pam Shriver and Martina Navratilova
Shriver and Navratilova were a formidable team
American Pam Shriver and Sweden's Mats Wilander have been named as this year's inductees into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport in the US.

Both received the required 75% vote from an international tennis media panel to earn a place in the hall's Recent Player Category.

Shriver came to prominence in 1978 as a 16-year-old when she became the first and only amateur to reach the final of the US Open during the open era.

She went on to win 21 singles titles and 112 doubles titles during her professional career, including a record 109 doubles wins with Martina Navratilova.

The pairing won 20 Grand Slam titles in Grand Slam events and in 1984 captured the first-ever Grand Slam in women's doubles.

Shriver now works as a tennis analyst for several American broadcasters and the BBC.

Wilander won eight Grand Slam titles and was the world number one in 1988 when he won the Australian, French and US Open titles.

He was also part of Sweden's Davis Cup-winning team in 1984, 1985 and 1987.

The induction ceremony will take place on 13 July.
