The defending champion lost the first set 6-3 in Bastad but won the second by the same score after a break for rain. There was another rain break with Rochus just one game from victory in the third set. When the players came back on court Norman won three straight games to move into the last four with a 3-6 6-3 7-5 victory. He plays Bohdan Ulihrach in the semis after the Czech beat number three seed Albert Portas 6-2 3-6 7-6 (7/4). In the other semi-final Italy's Andrea Gaudenzi will play Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco. Gaudenzi won a tight first set against Spain's Tommy Robredo 7-5. The Spaniard came back to win the second 6-4 but Gaudenzi took the decider 6-3. The 29-year-old El Aynaoui, a clay-court specialist, had an easier time.
