![]() | Monday, 4 June, 2001, 14:43 GMT 15:43 UK Kournikova set for Surbiton date ![]() Kournikova has been out of action since March Anna Kournikova will begin her Wimbledon preparations in Surbiton, Surrey, with an exhibition match against the daughter of a former Ipswich Town footballer. Kournikova, who missed the French Open with a foot injury, will play Elena Baltacha, daughter of former USSR international Sergei, on Saturday during the Powder Byrne Trophy. Kournikova, who will celebrate her 20th birthday on Thursday, suffered a stress fracture in her left foot in March. She is also scheduled to play in Eastbourne the week before Wimbledon, where she reached the semi-finals in 1997 in her best performance so far in a Grand Slam. Baltacha, who was born in the Ukraine but moved to Britain aged five when her father joined Ipswich, will be full of confidence after defeating sixth seed Dawn Buth in the first round on Monday. The 17-year-old trailed 2-0 in both sets but came back strongly to win 6-4 7-6. |
