Salute Paul Sculthorpe
Paul Sculthorpe is the first man to retain the Man of Steel title
St Helens and Great Britain loose forward Paul Sculthorpe becomes the first player to retain rugby league's Man of Steel title.

Send your tributes to Super League's finest.

The prize, awarded by a panel of journalists and broadcasters, confirmed Sculthorpe's standing as one of the greats of the modern game.

The 25-year-old was presented with a trophy and a cheque for 5,000 at the awards ceremony in Manchester.

Sculthorpe is set for a key role in Saturday's showdown with reigning Super League champions Bradford and also for Great Britain in next month's Test series against the touring New Zealanders.

Paul Sculthorpe is a great player and deserves his accolade, but it makes me sick when I think of all the great players Warrington have had and let go for short term financial gain.

Sculthorpe and Harris are just two. With those players at the club, we would now be looking forward to a grand final, rather than breathing a sigh of relief at avoiding relegation.
Jack Smith, UK

Consistently excellent performances meant there could be only one man for the man of steel. The man's guts and determination also show the type of qualities needed in a man of steel. Legend of the modern game and will be around for a few years yet.
Kris Bridge, UK

Once again Sculthorpe gets the recognition he deserves in the UK. Such a shame he doesn't play in the NRL though because then he'd be rightfully recognised as one of the top five players in the world. But then again, if he leads us to victory against the Kiwis like we know he can, maybe he finally will be rated on a global scale?
James Sievwright, Peterhead, Scotland

He's a legend already. Always gives 100% and always has an impact at the key moments. You can see the devil in his eyes that makes him a winner. It's been a pleasure to watch Saints over the past few years and he's been at the helm.
Dan, UK

Paul Sculthorpe rightly deserves this honour
Malc Brookes, UK

Scully is a very worthy winner of man of steel this year. He has been the most consistent player in the game, week after week scooping man of the match awards. He was the only player that tried against the Aussies in Sydney. Well done mate!
Anthony Burns, UK

Many congratulations to Paul Sculthorpe, a player who gives 100% every time he plays. I am an avid Hull FC and rugby league fan and would like to wish Paul Good luck for Saturday and for the test series against the Kiwis.
Andy Burton, England

Head and shoulders above the rest for the last two years, Paul Sculthorpe rightly deserves this honour. Let's not forget he was the only player who returned from that summer test humiliation with his reputation enhanced. It's now time he was made GB captain.
Malc Brookes, UK

Well done to Paul Sculthorpe. He has been the outstanding player of the whole season in Super League and thoroughly deserves it. He should also be picked as loose forward for GB, but we all know he won't, instead the consistant under-performer in internationals will get the number 13 jersey.
Dee Brookes, England

Excellent all round player, Paul totally deserves this award, he's been on top form this season! Well done!
Joe Wilson, UK

A totally deserved award again. If you had to rely on one man to score the vital try, or make the vital tackle, to turn a game, then Sculthorpe is the man you want on your side!
Mr. B. Teeth, Wilmslow, Cheshire

I would have given the award to Adrian Lam of Wigan
Kate, UK

A well deserved award in my opinion. Paul is a supreme athlete and should be regarded as a great role model for young kids to follow.
John, Manchester, UK

I don't agree with the choice! Last year he deserved it because he held his team together when they had problems with injuries etc, but this year, he has been nothing special!

I would have given the award to Adrian Lam of Wigan who, like Sculthorpe last year, has held his team together after injuries to key players such as Kris Radlinski and Andrew Farrell. Wigan still were only a game away from the grand final and without Lam, they would have struggled to make the play-offs!
Kate, UK

I've been watching saints for over 22 years and can't remember such a complete player. It's a tribute to him that he even stands out today, when the modern game has such emphasis on all-round skills. And he even stands out in the Saints teams of the Super League era: say no more!
Simon, England

Congratulations again to Scully. He's been the inspiration to the success of Saints this season, no matter where he is asked to play he gives 101%, even taking on the responsibility of goalkicking from Sean Long.

Hope the success continues on Saturday, and what an asset he will be for Saints over the next five years. All the best Paul, thanks for staying with Saints.
Andrea Plumpton

A genuine class player. Probably the best rugby player in the northern hemisphere. I reckon only Adrian Lam would have ran him close for the MoS award. Even though I'm no fan of Saints, well done to the guy.
Daniel, UK (London)
