A strong defensive action, a determination to hang on in there against a hostile attack and some blunt Yorkshire grit - those qualities stood you in good stead in your playing days and I hope they do so again! I wish you all the best, from an armchair admirer of your game. Geoff, Here is another Yorkshire man, two years older than you, whose colon cancer was diagnosed three years ago. As a runner, I vowed then that this was to be the start of my longest run - you now have to start your longest and most difficult innings. See 'em off lad Geoffrey, all the best. I am praying for you. Trust God. Geoffrey, sincere best wishes to my boyhood hero for a full and rapid recovery. I can still recall many a day sat in the football stand end at Park Avenue watching the master at work. Good luck Sir Geoff. Dear Geoff, guts, determination, commitment. They made you into a world class batsman and they are the brilliant qualities that will help you beat this temporary set back. With best wishes from me and my cricket club (Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club, Halifax League, Yorkshire).

You will live beyond a hundred years, and comment on cricket for your fans. I have not had the opportunity to see much of your batting as I belong to a later generation, but I have been one of your biggest fans for your commentating skills. Watching cricket without your witty, peppy and amazing commentary will be pretty boring! Good luck, Geoff. There are many more runs to be had yet. Keep a steady straight bat and it'll see you through this tricky over. Speedy recovery! I have many memories sitting glued to a radio when you defied the Windies much to my chagrin. Later as a commentator and astute and straightforward analyst, you helped me realize what the art of batting is really all about. For the lessons learnt stand me in good stead even today. I wish you a speedy recovery.
As a fellow Yorkshireman, from Barnsley, living in Australia, I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you, and praying for a speedy and successful recovery from your current situation.
