Ladies to shine at Wimbledon?
Will you be watching the ladies at Wimbledon?
With the men's game on grass dominated by big servers, the women's competition may provide the best entertainment at the All England Club.

Who do you prefer to watch?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Goran Ivanisevic's victory over Pat Rafter in 2001 may have been thrilling in terms of tension and drama, but purists still lament the passing of a more subtle game.

Some would argue the more entertaining tennis was played in the women's draw, with rallies and drop shots the norm rather than the exception.

And with players such as Venus Williams and Justine Henin managing to marry power and guile, many now prefer the spectacle of the women's game to the crash, bang, wallop of the men's.

Dull, dull, dull is how I'd describe the women's tennis at Wimbledon this year. Nobody can stop the Williams sisters dominating again and that is not their problem, but when you win 6-1 6-2 in the fourth round against a seed there is surely something fundamentally wrong with the womens game.
George, England

Venus and Serena Williams have brought a whole new excitement to the game of tennis. I never watched the major tournaments until Venus and Serena surfaced. Their family story gives credit to the old notion that you can always achieve by overcoming obstacles, no matter what the barriers are en route to success. What is even more beautiful to see is how they are breaking the horrendous racial barriers in the game of tennis and therefore we are the richer as a result.

When everyone's talents are allowed to be expressed equally, we are indeed a much better world! Therefore, I sincerely hope that Venus and Serena will be received with the dignity and respect that they so richly deserve as opposed to the abominable behavior of the fans in the Wimbledon gallery last year!
Suzanne Bergeron, USA

I've always preferred to watch women's tennis. The rallies are longer and the shots more varied. It's just more interesting to watch than the men's wham bam, thank-you mam game... ask anybody! The strange thing is that the media (including the BBC) haven't cottoned on to this. I'm really disappointed with the lack of coverage of women's tennis in the Wimbledon highlights and with Inverdale and McEnroe's comments about the ladies (e.g. Tuesday night's remarks about no-one having heard of half the women seeds - is it any wonder when they get so little coverage?). Wake up BBC to the beautiful and exciting world of women's tennis!!
Fiona Proffitt, UK

It has been fun watching the William sisters, the Belgian duo and others bring power and atheletism that has long been in the men's game to the women's game. The women's game is only going to get bigger.
Farai , USA

Today, Tues 25th was Ladies day. And the BBC kept stessing that, yet... How much Ladies tennis did we see in the main or the highlight programs, what percentage ? I'll wager less than 5 %

And you ask why we have so few women in the UK coming up in the game ? Well, partly, because the media does not care.
Amanda Tyrrell, UK

Men's Wimbledon is all about who can cope best on grass rather than play the best tennis - and with so many of the top players turning their noses up at Wimbledon it's the tournament is bordering on the pointless. The women's' game seems to be less affected by grass, contains almost all the top players, and is bound to be the better competition.
Mike Roberts, Spain

There is no denying that Venus and Serena are really on track for another all-Williams final. It will be pure power and athleticism. There are however some interesting players worth watching like Justine Henin and Jelena Dokic. If these women can stay focused enough until the second week, it is still possible for them to win the title.
