Salute Tony McCoy
Irishman Tony McCoy breaks Sir Gordon Richards' record of 269 winners in a season by triumphing in three of his opening four rides at Warwick.

Send your tributes to a racing great.

HAVE YOUR SAY

McCoy edged past Richards' target of 269 from 1947 by winning aboard Valfonic in the Leek Wooton Novices' Handicap Hurdle.

McCoy had earlier steered Shepherds Rest to victory in the Barford Handicap Chase to equal the 55-year-old record.

Sir Gordon Richards record was set on the Flat, but like Richards, McCoy has already been saluted as the best rider of his generation.

HAVE YOUR SAY

McCoy is no doubt a good jockey but surely a better judge of a horseman is his success in the country's top races. At the moment I can only see his record being a testament to his drive and single- mindedness rather than his pre-eminence over his peers. On the Flat, Mick Kinane is rightly talked of as the best, not for the number of rides but for the number of quality rides given on top-quality racehorses. How many top races has McCoy won, two at Cheltenham in 10 years!
Phil Tomlinson, England

Excellent, the man is a genius.
Sean, Ireland

Arise Sir Tony. Well-done champ.
Gareth McNeilly, N Ireland

He optimises the true sportsman; determined beyond belief and who knows his sport better than anyone. McCoy is a great earner for all the punters in the betting shops as he is a sure winner. Hope the winning continues!
Karl, Ireland

It's a tremendous achievement for one of the all-time greats
Billy, Ireland

Congratulations Tony on becoming the best jockey in history. You've certainly made me a few hundred quid down the years. Good luck on reaching 300!!!
Wayne Kennedy, Armagh, Ireland

McCoy is awesome; we all work hard in our chosen professions, I guess, but this man is unbelievable. He starves himself weekly yet remains 'the' strongest jockey you will see. His dedication, determination and sheer ability make him the best that's ever been. Sports Personality of the Year - no because racing is not widely followed - if it were McCoy would win it every year. Tony - you are the best.
Pazzo, Wales

It's a tremendous achievement for one of the all-time greats. It is fully deserved and inevitable given the regularity of his superb performances.
Billy, Ireland

Some ride!
Noodles, USA

Fantastic achievement, by a fantastic jockey. Let's hope he goes on to get another result for the Sports Personality of the Year award!
Kerry, England
