![]() | Friday, 8 February, 2002, 09:01 GMT Tributes to Paul Hunter ![]() Paul Hunter retains his B&H Masters title with a nail-biting victory against Mark Williams. Let's see what you made of the title tussle? Hunter, who lifted the trophy last year, produced a stunning comeback to claim the B&H Masters and a record 190,000 first prize. The 23-year-old from Leeds came from 5-0 down to win the next five, and the game was eventually decided in a thrilling final frame. Only Stephen Hendry and Cliff Thorburn have ever retained the B&H Masters title. Here are your tributes to the Leeds legend. What an amazing win! I was there and I could hardly cope with the tension....I don't know how Paul did!! A truly deserved win for a great entertainer. Well as you've seen, anything can happen in sport as Paul demonstrated by lifting the Masters title. A great comeback from 5-0 down and what composure he showed against a quality player. Can you go all the way now Paul? Hunter, man, you're the greatest. Your play is incredible and you'll make it up to number one in no time! I would just like to say well done Paul for winning the Benson & Hedges Masters for the second year running. It was great to watch. Good luck for all your other tournaments that you enter. I'm sure we're not alone in wanting to congratulate you Paul on retaining your Benson and Hedges Masters title. We had the great privilege of watching you win the Regal Welsh in Cardiff a few weeks ago and now the B & H at Wembley.
The atmosphere in the Conference Centre was electric and made for one of those great sporting moments - and you were part of it. Superb! To come from 5-0 behind and ultimately take the prestigious crown once again was a fantastic achievement. You must be over the moon! Thanks for an excellent day. Good luck for the rest of the season and let's hope you can lift the World Title this year. Amazing, how do you hold your nerve in a situation like last night? Watching you play is a pleasure, and a great lesson in match play temperament. I've watched Hunter closely since he won the Masters last year and he's been cosmic. The back-to-back wins have shown him to be a real world title contender. Maybe this new form is simply all down to him cutting his former lovely blonde locks!
Well done Paul, now for the World Championship! Hunter is just an up and coming player; he's amazing and deserves to be number one. Congratulations to Paul for playing such a nail-biting match and retaining his title. He deserves it! Amazing, all credit to Hunter for coming back from behind for the second year running! I just love hunter! |
